I own the Kindle 2 and I like it very much. I’ll say if you like to read you’ll definitely like the Kindle. It is available to the Philippines and it even has free 3G wireless in your country. Yes, you can download ebooks to your laptop and copy them to the Kindle anytime, as you can see “Transferring Files via USB” section.
It is better than Sony Reader because Amazon provide good content support, and the number of books available in Kindle format is kept on increasing (right now there are 300,000 Kindle books). Sony Reader, however, many users complain that it is difficult to find suitable books.
And the main problem is that books on Sony Reader are much more expensive than that on the Kindle (tips: if you’re outside the U.S. all the Kindle books you see will have a price of US$2 added. But if you choose to download to computer when you check out, the $2 will be waived. So you can get the books US$2 cheaper even if you’re outside the United States, and you can copy the books to your Kindle through USB cable). And many Kindle books, magazines and newspapers are cheaper than the actual paper version. Other benefits of the Kindle over Sony Reader include the free wireless internet access (now available internationally in many countries), and the text-to-speech function.
The refurbished version is cheaper, but it only has free wireless within U.S., while the new Kindle has free international wireless. And you know, Amazon gave a price drop for the Kindle 2 just before Xmas. It is now at a really good price.
Hope this helps.
I own the Kindle 2, and it is easy for me to say I love it! I think I’ve read over 20 books so far.
I love my Kindle because it has helped me improve a lot on my efficiency and utilize my time. Before I owned the Kindle, waiting time like when I’m waiting for friends or waiting for shuttle bus or some thing like that is simply wasted. Now I just need to bring the Kindle 2 along with me. Another thing I like the most is the text-to-speech function, which means I can “read” books without even holding or looking at the Kindle. Now I like to use this function when I’ve myself busy on some boring things, say when I’m on the step machine or doing some housework…
I like reading and at the beginning I missed a bit on the feeling of reading books. But now I love to hold the Kindle, the e-ink seems to work very well, it is really like reading books… Now I often read with the Kindle for several hours but I don’t feel tired.
If you want to buy new books, the nook is out altogether. You cannot make ANY purchases while overseas, just download things you’ve already purchased.
The Kindle has an international version with wireless, but the coverage in your area and the price per book and what books are available can differ greatly from what’s available in the US because of the copy write laws.
I’m not sure about the Sony honestly. I don’t know about the rest of the readers, but I’ve found with the kindle I can either convert the document or read it straight on my kindle as long as there is no DRM on it.
I’ll suggest you to get the Kindle instead of the Nook and Sony Reader, it is much more mature. There are much more selection of books too. The Kindle has a software for PC so you can even read Kindle books with your laptop. And it has free wireless in Philippines as well. The Nook just cannot be used outside the U.S., because you cannot shop for ebooks from Nook store due to export law (it may be solved later but not now)…
I think mainly, you can compare two factory how to socialize and how good technical each of these device. what will be long term profitability in terms of savings.
Well, technology wise Kindle is far better than any of these but you can get more socialize with Nook compare to kindle, e.g. like lend you book to friends, family in same way, most of us actully do same with paper book and that save time as well as money. Kindle don’t offer that featre with kindle 2 but Nook offers. As well sony has good community move my word which also offers similar open standards.
Well overall go with Kindle, but also try to compare with your needs.
I own kindle, what i like from kindle is the “text to speech” feature. With this feature you can set the kindle to read the book for you, so you can relax and just listening to your kindle.
I own the Kindle 2. If you ask me to choose again now, I’ll still go for the Kindle instead of the Nook and Sony Reader, because I think the web browsing function is rather important (the Nook and Sony Reader does not have a web browser). The free internet (and now it is free international internet) plus the web browser allow me to look for information whenever I’m in need. It is really a cool feature that cannot be missed. And right now it is free for both the U.S. and many other countries, it is just incredible when you bring it to trip.
I like to use the text-to-speech function which is only available on the Kindle too, meaning that I can “read” with my hands and eyes free…
I own the Kindle 2, so let me give you some of my opinions about it. I’ve to say I love it! I think I’ve read over 30 books with my Kindle, no glitches so far! Kindle books are cheaper than actual books and I think I’ve saved over $100 for the books I’ve bought on the Kindle.
One of the reasons I love my Kindle is that it has helped me improve a lot on my efficiency and utilize my time. Before I have the Kindle, waiting time like when I’m waiting for friends or waiting for shuttle bus or some thing like that is simply wasted. Now I just need to bring the Kindle 2 along with me, and all my favorite books are inside it. Another thing I like the most is the text-to-speech function, which means I can “read” books without even holding or looking at the Kindle. Now I like to use this function when I’ve myself busy on some boring things, say when I’m on the step machine or doing some housework…
I like reading and at the beginning I did miss a bit on the feeling of reading books. But now I love to hold the Kindle, the e-ink seems to work very well, it is really like reading books… Now I often read with the Kindle for several hours but I don’t feel tired… And I now prefer to manage all books inside the Kindle rather than my never big enough bookshelf… And like to do bookmarking, annotation, dictionary lookup without any additional thing but a Kindle. You can get a cover to protect the Kindle as well, so it will not be easy to break it
There are quite a lot of free books (tips: if you’re outside the U.S. all the books will have US$2 added, but when you choose to download to computer when you check out, the $2 will be waived, and you can copy the books to your Kindle through USB cable), and many Kindle books, magazines and newspapers are cheaper than the actual paper version. I remember I read these reviews about the benefits of the Kindle when I decided to buy it:
