I don’t have a Kindle but I hear great things about it. I hear some prefer the original Kindle compared to the newer version that recently come out. For those people out there with both versions or know about both very well, which is better in you opinion? Also, how does the Kindle compare to the Sony reader and all other reading devices.
Thank you

The two versions Amazon selling right now are the Kindle 2 and the Kindle DX. Yes, the Kindle 2 is more hot selling than the Kindle DX because it is more affordable and portable. Some people who can afford the money will go for the Kindle DX, because it has larger screen so it is better for reading newspapers, magazines, large books, etc.
I’ll say the Kindle is much better than other ebook readers like Sony Reader. Amazon gives the best and cheapest selection of ebooks. Sony Reader is not as good in content provision, and people complains difficult to find books on it.
The newer one is definitely the better version. It’s much faster, the buttons are better placed and easier to use, and there are several added features. The only thing the older version has over the new one is an SD card slot. The new model does not have one but has enough internal memory for about 1500 ebooks.
The main difference between the Kindle and Sony’s readers is that the Kindle will only display DRM’d ebooks bought from Amazon, whereas Sony’s ebook readers support Adobe DRM EPUB and PDF formats, which can be purchased from a number of different websites.
Amazon’s ebooks are typically the lowest priced, but with Sony’s you can barrow ebooks from your local libraries.
I don’t know much about the Kindle but from what I have heard from people who do is that the new one takes some getting used to after the original, but I think any next generation device no matter what it is, is the same way. One thing I have heard about the new one that is better is that there is less chance of accidentally turning the page.
The negative thing that Kindle has going for it is that the format that the books are in is not compatible with other readers, whereas Sony and others are trying to do crossover formats.
I own the Kindle 2, and it is easy for me to say I love it! I think I’ve read over 20 books so far.
I love my Kindle because it has helped me improve a lot on my efficiency and utilize my time. Before I owned the Kindle, waiting time like when I’m waiting for friends or waiting for shuttle bus or some thing like that is simply wasted. Now I just need to bring the Kindle 2 along with me. Another thing I like the most is the text-to-speech function, which means I can “read” books without even holding or looking at the Kindle. Now I like to use this function when I’ve myself busy on some boring things, say when I’m on the step machine or doing some housework…
I like reading and at the beginning I missed a bit on the feeling of reading books. But now I love to hold the Kindle, the e-ink seems to work very well, it is really like reading books… Now I often read with the Kindle for several hours but I don’t feel tired.
Yes, the original Kindle 2 is better than the new Kindle DX, because it has smaller size and price is much cheaper.
And I’ll say the Kindle 2 instead of Sony Reader.
I own the Kindle 2 and I like it very much. It is better than Sony Reader because Amazon provide good content support, and the number of books available in Kindle format is kept on increasing (right now there are 300,000 Kindle books). Sony Reader, however, many users complain that it is difficult to find suitable books, and books on it are more expensive than the Kindle. Other benefits of the Kindle over Sony Reader include the free wireless internet access, and the text-to-speech function.
Hope this helps.
I think people means the Kindle 2 better than the Kindle DX. It is more affordable and has a smaller size to carry around. The Kindle 2 is much better than the Sony Reader. Read this article which is written by a person who has tried a number of ebook readers, including the Amazon Kindle and the Sony Reader.
