Amazon Kindle vs Apple iPhone

While the Kindle is definitely the market leader in the ebook reader market, Apple is quick to wheel with the iPhone. From listening to music or watch your favorite movies to play, you can do with the iPhone, so why not read books on the device, as well? This is what Apple seems to think in any event and immediately after attempting to give the Kindle a run for its money as an eBook reader.

Recently, it was announced that several major publishers have signed agreements with ScrollMotion, a New York developer of mobile applications. ScrollMotion is a new program for iPhone and iPod Touch that will allow consumers to buy and read electronic versions of recently released and best-seller. This application offers latest Apple iPhone directly in ebook in a big way.

Despite the ambitions of Apple, there are two main differences that should facilitate the Kindle (at least for now) in the strict sense _an eBook reader. The first obvious difference is the size of the screen. Try reading a chapter of your favorite book on a screen 3.5 inches, the size of the display on the iPhone, and is likely to go crazy. Compare that to six inches diagonal Kindle and there is no comparison in the comfort of reading.

The other main difference between these devices is the technology that is used in the screens themselves. Kindle uses E-Ink technology to display text, while the iPhone works as a computer screen in which light is emitted to display text. The difference between these technologies is dramatic. When you read the text on the Kindle, looks like a text on paper and there is virtually no eyestrain, even after long sessions of reading. With the iPhone, the reading of the text is very similar to reading your computer screen (on a much smaller scale) and almost certainly strain your eyes.

When comparing these devices side by side as strictly digital book readers, the display is larger and display technology favors easily Amazon Kindle. There are two things for Apple, however, that could eclipse the success of the Kindle. The first of the iPhone availability and price, and the second is the convenience of being able to do everything with a single small device. The iPhone is available immediately and is cheaper than the Kindle. As for the screen size and potential eye strain, consumers may be willing to make these sacrifices if it means they can use one device for all.

The ideal gadget would work like the iPhone and the Kindle, but it will never happen anytime soon. I think that eventually the dedicated ebook readers like the Kindle will always be one step ahead on the communication and entertainment devices of small dimensions as the iPhone. This does not mean that Apple is out of the game. Who knows, maybe the “iReader Apple” is just around the corner?
